Morgan Echols
Artist
Morgan Echols has been creative her entire life, but it wasn’t until 2019 that she discovered her true artistic voice. Initially drawn to realism, she found it limiting and turned instead to intuition, letting her work evolve organically. This shift led her to focus on color relationships, with geometric patterns emerging as the ideal framework to explore them. Drawing inspiration from daily observations and fleeting visuals, Echols incorporates these moments into her art in profound ways. Balancing a corporate career with painting until 2021, she would rush home to immerse herself in her creative practice, often working late into the night. Her relentless drive led her to pursue art full-time, channeling her energy into every brushstroke. With a Bachelor’s in Psychology, Echols applies insights into perception to her work, blending precision and creativity to craft harmonious compositions. Her self-taught journey is rooted in trial and error, continuously evolving her techniques through experimentation. She organizes her work methodically, with titles reflecting design, pattern, and color structures, embodying her "type-A" approach to art-making. This meticulous process contrasts with her more laid-back personal life, highlighting the joy she finds in order and symmetry. Echols' journey is a testament to the power of intuition, dedication, and the continual pursuit of growth, with each painting offering a narrative of balance, color, and self-discovery.
Morgan Echols' work explores symmetry and balance, using geometric patterns to convey the beauty of color relationships and optical illusions. By carefully manipulating values and gradients, she creates experiences that captivate viewers from both a distance and up close. Her art highlights the flexibility of color in different contexts, where subtle tonal shifts generate optical effects that challenge perception. Every brushstroke contributes to the rhythm of the piece, achieving a balance that resonates visually and emotionally. Through this meticulous process, Echols demonstrates how art can evoke both precision and intuition, fostering a dialogue between structure and spontaneity. Her work celebrates the transformative power of color, emphasizing its ability to shift in meaning and impact depending on its context within the composition. The interplay of light and dark, muted and vibrant colors, and smooth and sharp transitions creates dynamic interactions that reflect the harmony sought in life. Ultimately, Echols' work is about more than geometry and color—it’s a lens to see the world through intricate detail, discovering balance in art, ourselves, and life as a whole. Each piece invites the viewer into a meditative experience, encouraging them to pause, reflect, and find their own sense of equilibrium within the
dynamic compositions.
