Cheryl Christiansen
Artist
Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Cheryl Christiansen is an actress, writer, singer-songwriter who has appeared on many TV shows, in feature films and on stage, whose songs have been recorded by major recording artists. She began painting in 1970, when she met renowned artist and famous film director, Jean Negulesco, who was sketching line drawings of the people and happenings around him. His technique attracted her. Taking her under his wings, he became her mentor. Presenting her with her first camera, guiding her and encouraging her to develop all of her many talents, he changed her life forever, unlocking the door to a world of art, out of which has flowed her extensive creativity. Under his tutelage, she began her painting career with pen and ink drawings splashed with gouache. His influence, and the impact their relationship had in her life, is
evident in her exotic body of work. She received her formal training at Otis/Parsons Institute of Art and UCLA, as well as with individual instructors. Ms. Christiansen's work is collected internationally in such countries as Japan, England, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia. Private collectors include former CEO of Dresser Industries, the former president of Aracca Petroleum, the president of Dar Assayad Publishing and former UNICEF Ambassador to Belize, The Princess of Hyderabad and the former Mayor of Zermat. Her works have also been purchased by a number of private, corporate and celebrity collectors.
California artist Cheryl Christiansen is most noted for her colorful, oversized flowers, her serene
landscapes and her Impressionist, yet contemporary, series of peaceful lily ponds and graceful
waterlilies. As a passionate admirer of Claude Monet and, in particular, his works at his beloved home in Giverny, she was bestowed with an original painting by the Paris gallery representing Albert Malet. Malet was a student of Monet's and the sole artist allowed by the Monet family, after his death, to continue to paint at Giverny. This beautiful little treasure has been a source of inspiration to her to this day. Cheryl works in all media, but prefers oil. The prismatic colors closely represent the chakras, or energy vortexes, of the human body, allowing her to explore and express the world of light. Involved for many years in the healing arts, Christiansen experiences the process of creating a painting as a road map for the evolution of the soul - the end result revealing the journey of the spirit toward forgiveness, love, healing and enlightenment.
